Esmerelda’s was made possible by – Tindi Tinderholem

In memory of my beloved daddy ❤️

In honor of the person who was my Mentor throughout my entire life. The one person that taught me about the values of life, caring for people, upholding principles and to never give up!  His wisdom guided me through my years, even today I still hear his voice.  He NEVER stopped praying for me, even during his final moments, his hand clutching in mine, he prayed his last prayer for me. He was an extraordinary man and daddy.  He motivated me to continue to walk the path God has prepared for me. My BELOVED DADDY,  thank you for your unconditional love, YOU made Esmerelda’s possible. I miss daddy deeply, but our wonderful memories carry me and give me strength. I know you do watch over me, and always will!

All my love, always.

I SALUTE you Daddy❤️ Your daughter “Zimmie”

Esmé Taljaard matriculated in 1983 at the High School, Dr Malan, Meyerton. She then enrolled for a B.Proc Degree at the Randse Afrikaanse University. Due to trauma after her mother’s sudden death, she didn’t complete her Degree, but decided to make a difference in people’s lives through Counselling. She became a Counselor and for more than 21 years dedicated her life, teaching, guiding, leading and coaching, youngsters, teenagers and adults in South Africa, struggling to live with ADD/ADHD & Co-morbidities.

Esmé has three sons, all of which were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, including other overlapping Mental Health conditions and learning difficulties. This resulted in Esmé developing an intense interest in Mental Health conditions, especially how to treat, cope and live with it. She gleaned her knowledge from overseas experts, organizations, studies, but most of all her own experiences over years.

Esmé also has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in combination with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety and Panic Disorder.

She focuses on the understanding of these disorders, but most importantly how to implement coping strategies, motivating a “holistic model approach” for treatment. In August 1997 she was elected as the President of the ADHD Support Group of Southern Africa. The Support Group grew to 30 branches throughout South Africa, neighboring countries as well as a group in the Seychelles. During September 1999 Esmé established the first Summer camp for ADD/H children in South Africa. These camps successfully provided a place of “acceptance and learning for ADD/H children”, parents and educators. Esmé presented workshops all over South Africa as well as facilitating several workshops in Seychelles. She was a regular guest on television and radio shows and conducted seminars for both parents, teachers and therapists.

Esmé Taljaard was nominated by members of the ADHD Support Group for the prestigious “South African SABC/Shoprite Checkers Woman of the Year Award in 2004”.

She represented the ADHD Support Group on the Kellogg’s SANEP Panel (South African Nutritionists Experts Panel) as well as facilitated a menu at WIMPY outlets, free from harmful artificial ingredients. Esmé established Skills for Life Academy in January 2005, a mainstream private school accommodating learners with difficulties from Grade 1 to 10. She was the Chief Executive Officer of Skills for Life Academy.

Esmé ‘s passion has always been to create awareness about ADD/ADHD, co-morbid conditions and Mental Health, whilst promoting a ‘Holistic Treatment Approach’.

Esmé has now established Esmerelda’s Counselling Services and is Co-founder of HOPE Support Group in South Africa.

janine Goosen

Founder of HOPE Support Group for ‘Mums” & Co-Ordinator of Esmerelda’s

Janine Goosen, matriculated in 2002, at Transvalia High School, Vanderbijlpark. Although she had to deal with Mental Health Conditions from a very young age, she has accomplished a successful career. Her motto has always been “to not give up, no matter how difficult the struggles”.

She is the mother of 3 children, her eldest being a gifted-autistic child, and one of her twins, age 8, being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Education and Home Management are most definitely not easy, and a daily challenge.

Janine tragically lost her beloved mother in 2022 after her suffering for many years with depression and other Mental Health Conditions. This has inspired Janine to establish “HOPE Support Group” for Mum’s in despair.
She is the Founder with a strong message, “It is time to break the silence on Mental Health”!
